Solarwatt acquires Dutch battery specialist REConvert

Solarwatt, the European market leader in glass-glass solar modules and one of the leading suppliers of electricity storage systems, has acquired battery storage specialist REConvert for a seven-figure € sum.

Solarwatt acquires Dutch battery specialist REConvert

The Dutch development company, based in Utrecht, is a specialist in power electronics for batteries and develops state-of-the-art electronic solutions with high-speed processors and corresponding control systems. REConvert was founded in 2018 by five international electronics engineers with many years of experience.

Around 20 people now work for the company, which will continue to trade under the REConvert name and retain its location in Utrecht.

“The acquisition is a logical step”

REConvert and Solarwatt’s subsidiary Solarwatt Innovation have already been working closely together for several years in the development of home battery systems.

For Solarwatt CFO Sven Böhm, the acquisition of REConvert by the Dresden-based photovoltaic company is a logical next step: “With this acquisition, we are pursuing our development towards becoming a sector coupler by further strengthening our know-how in the field of power electronics for battery systems and inverters.”

Last year, Solarwatt presented the home battery system SOLARWATT Battery flex, which was developed in cooperation with the BMW Group.

Concentrating on product development

Arno Van Zwam, previously managing director at REConvert and responsible for business development, will take on the management of the new Solarwatt subsidiary in the Netherlands together with Solarwatt CTO Dr. Armin Froitzheim: “We are very pleased that we are now part of the Solarwatt family.

“We now have a strong team behind us to take care of material procurement, sales, logistics and further business development. This means we can now concentrate on what we really enjoy and what we are good at: product development. This is definitely a win-win situation.”
