Lib Dems pledge ‘Green Homes Revolution’

The Liberal Democrats have announced plans to introduce a new Green Homes Bill in the next Parliament aimed at improving the energy efficiency of Britain’s housing stock and promoting renewable heat technologies.

The bill would build on the results of existing policies including ECO, Green Deal, Zero Carbon Homes and the new Fuel Poverty Strategy.

It would incentivise people to insulate their homes by:
-Offering £100 off council tax bills for 10 years
-Introducing a ‘Feed-out Tariff’ for solid wall insulation
-Reforming Green Deal to include renewable heat and electricity

Deputy prime minister and Liberal Democrat leader, Nick Clegg, said: “We relentlessly pushed the green agenda over the last five years in government, in the face of strong resistance from the Conservatives.

“Energy efficiency is the most important fuel we didn’t know we had. Insulating millions of homes will significantly improve the cost of living and quality of life of people across the UK.”
