First phase of district heating scheme comes online

The Leicester District Energy Scheme is a 25 year £15m partnership between Leicester City Council and Cofely District Energy which will see six of the city’s estates supplied with environmentally friendly energy.

5MW of low carbon gas fired CHP and upgraded biomass boilers will come online to achieve an estimated saving 12,000 tonnes per year by 2014.

The first phase will also supply public buildings in Leicester including De Montford Hall, Leicester University, the central library, prison and other city council buildings.
