Octopus awards £100m in customer referral energy payments

Octopus Energy has introduced the UK’s first heat pump and solar referral scheme, aiming to accelerate the adoption of clean heating technologies and support the achievement of net zero goals.

Octopus Energy launches the UK's first heat pump and solar referral scheme, rewarding customers with £100 for referrals and offering discounts on installations. This innovative program has already distributed nearly £100m, furthering clean energy adoption and moving towards net zero.

Since its launch, Octopus has paid nearly £100 million in referral bonuses directly to customers, bypassing energy-switching sites. This sum has been distributed among existing customers who recommend Octopus and new customers joining the provider.

With its new heat pump and solar referral offer launch, the payout is expected to increase significantly. Under this scheme, customers who install a heat pump or solar system through Octopus can refer others. Referrers receive £100, and those who install the technology enjoy a £100 discount.

Significant surge in heat pump demand

Those who are Octopus Energy retail customers can get a £100 credit on their account, while others will receive a widely accepted e-voucher of the same value.

It comes as the government announces a significant surge in demand for heat pumps, with applications for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant increasing by 75% in February compared to last year.

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, chief product officer at Octopus Energy, said: “Nothing makes us happier than satisfied customers, and we’re incredibly proud that so many have referred us to their friends and family over the years.

“Our approach has always been to put money back into people’s pockets, and we’ll happily give away another £100 million in referrals as savvy customers take advantage of our heat pump offer – and help speed up the clean heating revolution along the way.”
