Solar Keymark MID recategorisation

From Monday 24 February, a change to categories on the MCS Installation Database (MID) will go live affecting the way that Solar Keymark products are displayed and selected, and the way that Installer certification is shown.

Solar installer

Solar Keymark will no longer appear as a technology type. Instead, these products will be categorised as ‘Solar Thermal’, certified under the Solar Keymark scheme.

Installers can continue to use Solar Keymark products in their MCS installations. The change is to the way that we categorise and store these products in the MID.

Going forward, no products can be added to the MID under ‘Solar Keymark technology type’ instead, they can be added as Solar Thermal products. Installers will no longer be shown as certified for ‘Solar Keymark’ as a technology type but will show as an Installer that can install Solar Thermal.

In summary, changes include:

  • The way that products are added to the MID
  • The categorisation of products on the MID (and how they appear in our Product Directory)
  • How Installers are certified for technology types on the MID (and how they appear in our Installer Search)

Historic data linked to Solar Keymark will be expired and locked. The Solar Thermal products under the Solar Keymark Scheme will be reuploaded to the MID featuring the same certification number as before to make the transition easier and minimise confusion. All certificates that have been made in the past with Solar Keymark products will remain unchanged.
