A new training centre for Northern Ireland heating installers that focuses on renewable technologies is set to open in Portadown in County Armagh.

The Portadown training centre, located at the Kingspan site at Gilford Road, is a joint venture between Plumb Center, Kingspan and Sevenoaks Energy Academy. The centre, which opens at the beginning of May, is Plumb Center’s ninth academy joining similar centres in Leamington Spa, Sevenoaks, Bristol, Exeter, Leeds, Shrewsbury, London and Falkirk.

The Portadown centre was recently inspected and accredited by BPEC to run courses, delivered by training partner Sevenoaks Energy Academy, on subjects including solar thermal, ground source and air source heat pumps, vented and unvented hot water storage systems, and environmental technologies.

“I’m delighted we finally have a renewables training offer in Northern Ireland,” said Plumb Center’s Northern Ireland area trading manager Davy Frew.

“We’re looking forward to working with our Northern Ireland customers and our colleagues at Kingspan to make the centre a great success.”
