College unveils first solar offering

City College Plymouth has responded to the growing demand for low carbon courses by announcing that its first cohort of students will be undertaking the Installation of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems course.

The nationally recognised City & Guilds course, which is run in the College’s ABB Energy Centre, is intended for qualified electricians who want to broaden their installation skills  or gain the knowledge to give advice to property owners. Students will be taught in industry standard facilities which includes installing, testing and commissioning PV systems.

Fourteen purpose built bays at the centre contain a variety products and training systems such as rainwater harvesting and re-use systems, solar thermal hot water systems, small scale PV systems, heat pump systems, CHP systems, environmental monitoring and intelligent building control systems.
