One thing we can be certain of is that tomorrow’s heating sector will look different to the one we currently know. The goal of net zero has been set but the path we will follow to achieve these carbon targets is less certain as there are multiple routes available for us to take. Government legislation is being prepared to steer the heating industry into a new era, where traditional fossil fuel systems will need to make way for more sustainable solutions. It is therefore, the responsibility of manufacturers, such as Grant, to support and provide installers with viable low carbon heating products, which can effectively meet their customers’ requirements while also reducing emissions.
Two homes in Low Thornley, near Gateshead will show the use of hydrogen-fuelled appliances in a real-world setting and today Baxi invited housing providers and colleagues to see its boiler in action.
The ‘big four’ – Baxi, Ideal Boilers, Vaillant, and Worcester Bosch – have united for the first time in a joint initiative to ensure that the price of a new hydrogen-ready boiler won’t exceed that of existing natural gas models. The price promise is designed to help consumers reduce carbon emissions from home heating and hot water and assist with delivering net zero commitments by alleviating cost fears.
This ban comes as one of 400 steps on the road to net zero, as proposed in a special report by the agency. The report has been welcomed as an important contribution on the road to COP26 in Glasgow, when countries will attempt to agree the measures needed to put the Paris climate agreement into practice.
It looks like the writing is on the wall for natural gas boilers following the prime minister’s announced intention to reduce emissions by 68% by 2030 compared with 1990 levels. Such an ambitious target cannot be tackled with heat pumps alone, so how to plug the gap?
The site has been used to complete more than 200 tests, researching and proving the safety of converting homes and gas networks to hydrogen.
