Training grant available for Yorkshire installers

40 installers will receive funding towards Green Deal accreditation through the ‘Better Homes Yorkshire’ scheme.

The funding has come from DECC for heating engineers, insulation fitters and renewable energy companies with less than 250 employees in the Leeds City region to join the Green Deal network. It gives smaller companies not yet Green Deal approved an opportunity to upskill for a third of the cost.

Better Homes Yorkshire aims to install energy efficiency improvements in over 28,000 Yorkshire households. Recipients of training grants also have the opportunity of joining the Better Homes Yorkshire supply chain.

Nicola Akers, project coordinator for the installer training scheme, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for smaller contractors to join one of Yorkshire’s largest retrofit projects. Better Homes Together is committed, and contractually obliged, to using a local supply chain and will be contracting local businesses to deliver the programme.

“We have funding available to cover over 80 percent of PAS2030 accreditation and training fees.”
