Sustainable Energy says it will independently advise the healthcare organisation throughout the project cycle, from feasibility to operation, to deliver an optimised system at Raigmore and Caitness Hospitals.
The plant design, created by Sustainable Energy Ltd and recently approved by the Highland Health Board, uses steam biomass technology to slash energy spend by an estimated £500,000 and create C02 savings of 5,983 tonnes.
Allan Crooks, senior manager for Carbon Trust Scotland, added: “The NHS Highlands biomass project is fully supported by the Carbon Trust, which endorses any cost-effective effort to cut carbon emissions and protect the environment. A large public sector organisation demonstrating the benefits of renewable energy is a positive case study for other businesses in Scotland considering their utility needs. “
