New government ad campaign highlights heat pump benefits to householders

The government has launched a new campaign promoting the benefits of heat pumps to householders, as well as the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant available towards the cost of buying one.

The ‘warm and fuzzy’ campaign features stop frame animation of knitted characters sharing their experiences of being happy heat pump owners. The script is based on testimonials for actual heat pump customers.

It was launched earlier this month.

Director of the Heating and Hotwater Council, Stewart Clements, was among those in attendance at a launch event.

He said: “HHIC and our members support the government’s campaign to educate homeowners on the benefits of having a heat pump installed. Manufacturers and heating engineers are already aware of the environmental and energy saving benefits of heat pumps.

“Now, in order to increase demand and reach the government’s installation targets, it’s time to spread these important messages among homeowners.

“Heat pumps can produce carbon savings of up to 70% (compared to a gas boiler) and the opportunity that households could save on energy bills by using a smart tariff. Importantly, as we produce more low carbon electricity here in the UK, we won’t have to rely on imported gas, which in turn contributes to our energy security.”

The campaign has three key messages:

  • You can upgrade your traditional boiler to a heat pump with a £7,500 government grant
  • Heat pumps are good for the environment and will substantially reduce your home’s carbon footprint
  • Heat pumps keep your home warm and cosy

It will be featured over the coming months on TV, video-on-demand, digital and social platforms, in the media, and, in some areas, on EV charging points.

The heat pump campaign home page features a link to MCS to help people find an installer.
