NIBE launches new GSHP policy paper

The paper, which has been shared with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, proposes a new policy to fund 100 years of ground works and bore holes for GSHPs.

A fee would then be paid regularly by households to pay back the costs of the ground works as a small standing charge, in a similar way that charges are placed on gas bills to cover the costs of infrastructure.

A proposed Clean Heat Grant was recently announced by government although concerns have been raised in the industry over the suitability of a flat £4,000 grant for GSHPs.

With the cost of ground works making GSHPs more expensive than their air source counterparts, Nibe says that ground works should be seen as a long-term infrastructure investment to remove this crucial barrier and that policy should be designed to encourage deployment.
