Putting the planet first on day one at Futurebuild 2020

Futurebuild’s first day hits the ground running by tackling one of the biggest challenges facing the industry – achieving net-zero carbon emissions in a resilient and sustainable environment.

Baroness Brown of Cambridge, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Climate Change, kicked off the day with an impassioned declaration that, with key environmental performance continuing to decline, Government needs to do more and be held more accountable.

The event is hosting six theme-specific keynote stages, each providing thought-provoking debate and discussions focused on putting the planet first. There was standing room only at the Building Keynote stage as leaders from across government and industry covered vital issues such as the proposed changes to Part L and Part F of the building regulation standards and how we can make the UK’s existing housing energy efficient.

Visitors were also given the opportunity to explore the new Innovation Trail showcasing revolutionary products, solutions and materials and meet the leading thinkers behind these innovations.

Martin Hurn, Futurebuild Event Director, commented: “Everywhere you turn at this year’s event you experience innovation and forward-thinking companies who are tackling the issues we are facing as an industry. But these aren’t futuristic or conceptual ideas, they’re tangible solutions which will make a real difference. Our Innovation Partners are leading the charge and we know that visitors over the next two days will be inspired by what they have to offer. Tomorrow is a huge day with the final winner of the Big Innovation Pitch being announced and we’re really excited to find out who comes out on top.”
