Mitsubishi Electric launches environmental plan

Mitsubishi Electric has announced details of its seventh global environmental plan designed to mitigate the company’s environmental impact and carbon footprint.

The company has adopted a new plan every three years since 1993 following annual environmental reports of its domestic and international operations. The latest three year plan will contribute to the company’s long term target of reducing carbon emissions by 30 percent compared to 1991 levels.

The Hatfield-based company adds that C02 emissions from manufacturing in the fiscal year ending March 2012 were down to 933,000 tonnes beating the official target of 955,000.

Martin Fahey, sustainable solutions manager for the company’s living environmental systems division, UK, said: “With this seventh environmental plan, we aim to further reduce CO2 emissions by 121,000 tons by March 2015. Here in the UK, our green gateway philosophy is examining all aspects of how we conduct our business to help achieve this and also highlights ways in which we can help our customers lower their own energy use and carbon emissions.”
