CoolSky goes global for growth in solar energy

CoolSky, the Newtownards-based manufacturer of solar energy controllers, has partnered with Apricus Solar in a joint venture, to market solar water heating systems in key European markets. In addition, CoolSky will provide technical support for Apricus Solar’s systems in Europe.

The partnership deal between the Northern Ireland technology company and Apricus Solar, a leading player in solar heat collection tubes for commercial and residential users, was signed at the industry’s recent InterSolar exhibition in Munich.

CoolSky has taken on the role of expanding Apricus Solar’s European marketing presence through a sales and marketing partnership as part of Apricus’s  global growth strategy.

Apricus Solar has established businesses in North America and Asia Pacific for its vacuum heat collector tubes which are manufactured in China and the US.

CoolSky managing director Kathy McVeigh, part of the founding team of CoolSky, which includes solar thermal expert Dr Patrick Davis, said: “This is an immensely important partnership which enables us to offer customers in Europe market leading solar vacuum heat collector tubes for hot water industrial, commercial and domestic applications

“We also have extensive experience in marketing solar technology in key European markets including France and Germany, which enables us to provide Apricus with the knowledge and technical support for fast growth in these markets.

“Apricus is an ideal fit for us because of our knowledge of solar tube technology and in the development of easy to install and use controllers for cost effective water heating systems.”

Mick Humphreys, Apricus Solar’s chief executive officer, said:  “The new marketing partnership with CoolSky will enable us to expand our existing position in Europe. We already have a number of important installations in Europe including the Hospital son Espacses in Majorca, where 11,000 tubes provide 70 per cent of the hospital’s daily hot water supply. Installations in North America include US Army residential accommodation at San Antonio, Texas and the IKEA store in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“In Australia Apricus Solar has recently been ranked among the top 10 fastest growing businesses and is the largest supplier of evacuated tube products in what is one of the world’s most active and mature solar markets.

“Apricus Solar is a global company focused on providing simple and effective solutions for families and businesses concerned about the effects of climate change and rising energy costs,” he added.
