New housing development opts for solar tiles

House builders Bloor Homes has turned to solar technology in order to meet stringent building regulations.

To bring homes on its Littlecombe housing development in Gloucestershire up to level four standard of the Code for Sustainable Homes, Bloors opted for Redland roof integrated PV tiles. 219 tiles will now produce 18.1kW of clean electricity for the estate having been installed by Brown Roofing (BR) Solar.

Rob Brown, director of Brown Roofing, said: “Redland products were chosen for their quality and the almost seamless integration possible between Solar PV Tiles and traditional roof tiles. This means the aesthetic appearance of the finished homes is superior to the majority of roofs with PV systems being installed today”.

Edward Meredith, senior surveyor at Bloor Homes, added: “We chose to use Redland Solar PV Tiles as part of a whole Redland roof system because not only were they fully integrated, providing a great visual appearance, but also that Redland’s guarantee gives us peace of mind for the next 25 years.”
