BayWa r.e. selects Sunstation to add to its UK solar portfolio

BayWa r.e. has selected Solarcentury’s award-winning Sunstation as the first fully integrated solar roof system that it will offer to the UK market in response to growing demand from installers and homeowners for aesthetically-pleasing solar.

Research by Solarcentury found that 86% of homeowners want new additions to their home to look stylish. Two thirds (65%) said that if they installed solar panels they’d have to be less visible and not stand out; a third (32%) said it was important what their neighbours think about new additions to their home.

Launched last year, Sunstation comprises sleek black modules that sit low on the roof battens so that they are flush with the roof. And with installation typically taking less than a day, Sunstation is already proving popular for the UKs growing new build sector and the retrofit roof integrated PV market.

Sunstation’s first UK customer was fashion designer and key member of the Design Council CABE Committee Wayne Hemingway; the Sunstation system on the roof of his unique Sussex home has been generating clean solar energy for over a year.

Ian Draisey, the Managing Director at BayWa r.e. Solar Systems Ltd said: “Over the past 18 months the growth in new build activity among installers has been noticeable; we have therefore been looking to partner with a reliable solar company so we can offer a fully roof integrated product to the UK market that meets the demands of the new build sector, as well as installers working in the retrofit and refurbishment market.

“Sunstation is a Tier 1 manufactured module and is an ideal fit within the BayWa r.e. portfolio of high quality products. We believe that the excellent aesthetics of Sunstation coupled with its simplicity and speed of install will be well received by our customers.”

Sunstation is quick and easy to install because there is no unwieldy sub-frame and it comprises just seven elements, so that the average system can be installed in less than a day.

Sunstation systems have just 50% of the quantity of parts when compared to a typical on-roof system. Sunstation has been designed and extensively tested with expert input from engineers, installers and architects.

Frank Oldfield, Head of Sales, Residential Solar at Solarcentury commented: “BayWa r.e. is the perfect distribution partner for our award-winning Sunstation module.

“The company has a long established and reputable track record as a solar specialist and it is able to fulfil demand from installers around the UK. Their technical design expertise and high quality customer support are going to ensure that installers can select Sunstation with ease.”
