Port seeks contractor for solar array

milford haven
Following recent approval by Pembrokeshire County Council of the Port’s plans for a solar array system, the Port of Milford Haven is now seeking competitive proposals for the complete development, construction and start-up of a single 5 megawatt utility scale solar photovoltaic energy power plant (PVS) at Liddeston Ridge, Milford Haven.

The successful contractor will be required to execute a Design-Build Agreement, provide turnkey planning, design, engineering, labour, materials, delivery, installation, and commissioning of a cost-effective and energy efficient solar PV system together with associated infrastructure, to maximise the use of the solar resource at Liddeston Ridge.

Tim James, energy development manager for the Port of Milford Haven, said that construction is expected to begin in April and, provided that a window of opportunity arises to connect to the grid, be completed by the summer this year.

He added: “Up to 100 jobs will be created during this construction phase, sourced locally where possible.  The solar panels will be capable of supplying over 5,000 megawatt hours of clean electricity each year; enough energy to power around 1,000 homes as well as saving just over 1,800 tonnes of carbon emissions – equivalent to taking 267 cars off the road!

“All of the clean energy generated will be fed into the local grid, becoming part of the energy mix used by houses and businesses in the immediate vicinity.”
