France throws weight behind European PV production

The French government has said it will apply a 10 percent bonus to the Feed-in Tariff for PV rooftop systems which have been made in Europe. Tariffs for other eligible systems will be raised by 5 percent.

The country’s ministy of ecology and energy has also said it plans to introduce a maximum threshold for annual PV Feed-in Tariff decreases to 20 percent. Currently there is no such limit.

The moves come following the election of president Francois Hollande’s new government which has pledged to show stronger support for wind and solar energy to compensate for the scheduled reduction of nuclear power in the country from 75 percent of the total energy mix to 50 percent by 2025.
