Cash back deal announced for Green Deal

The government has announced that upto £1,000 cash back will be offered to homeowners in England and Wales who sign up to Green Deal.

The scheme will be run on a first-come first-served basis and the level of cash back will reflect the amount of energy efficiency measures installed in a home. £40m has initially been set aside to fund the incentive, available from January 28th 2013, in the hope that it will spark greater interest and demand for Green Deal.

The offer is limited to one per household and work must be carried out by a Green Deal Provider. The cash back rates below will be available first but cash back rates may be reduced after that to provide maximum benefit to early adopters.

Energy secretary Ed Davey said: “The Green Deal will provide unprecedented choice for consumers wanting to improve their homes and make them more energy efficient. This cash back offer will help get the Green Deal off to a flying start. It really is a great offer – the more work households have done, the more cash they receive.

“The Green Deal also presents a great opportunity for businesses of all sizes to take advantage of this transforming market – and now is a critical time. Whatever your business does in this sector, the Green Deal will have an impact. So I say to businesses large and small – gear up, get training and get ready to take advantage of the Green Deal.”

Householders will have the option of donating their cash to registered charities who have signed up with the scheme administrator whilst the offer will also apply to social or private landlords if they are the property improver (i.e not the tenant) and are paying the costs themselves.
