Train and gain

A selection of the latest training opportunities in the world of renewables.

NAPIT’s complete solution
All of NAPIT’s renewables courses are held at the fully sustainable NAPIT Training Centre in Bristol. Equipped with practical assessment boards and purpose built renewables training rigs, this is a fitting learning environment for anyone wanting to train in renewable technologies.

NAPIT has recently added Green Deal Advisor and Domestic Energy Assessor courses to its product portfolio. These courses are designed to allow customers to compile the reports necessary to advise on the Green Deal and give property owners access to its full financial potential.

Also available this month, NAPIT is offering 15 per cent off biomass training, a qualification that will allow installers to work with an increasingly popular renewable technology.

Learning at your fingertips
The National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies has developed a range of bespoke e-learning resources. These are accessible online at www.nsa-elearning.org.uk and have been developed to help those who want to gain a further understanding about the various environmental technologies available – ‘Future proof your career’ is aimed at experienced building services engineers and an ‘Introduction to Environmental Technology Systems’ is accessible to anyone with an interest in renewables.

Other resources available in the suite support the level 3 qualifications, and include modules on solar thermal hot water systems, small-scale solar photovoltaic systems, ground and air source heat pump systems and water harvesting and recycling systems.

Keeping it local
Would you like the advantage of renewable energy training at your local centre, instead of travelling further or paying for overnight accommodation to attend workshops and assessments? Then OLCI says its courses are the ones for you.

OLCI Construction Training has 13 centres nationwide and says its flexible training can easily be made to fit around work and family commitments. Support is provided by experienced tutors plus, with OLCI, installers can start as soon as they enrol, so qualifications can be profited from sooner.

OLCI courses include: solar PV, solar thermal, domestic heat pump installation, heat recovery, rain/greywater harvesting, energy efficiency part L.

On offer
Trade Skills 4U invested over £250,000 last year on training facilities.  It is also planning to launch a range of offers and discounts on renewable courses. The ‘Great Deals for The Green Deal’ training offers will be announced on the companies social media sites (Facebook: www.facebook.com/tradeskills4u Twitter: @Tradeskills4u) which installers can visit to see what’s on offer.

Variety club
At Waxman, the Approved Institute of Domestic Heating and Environmental Engineers offers courses in biomass, solar thermal, air and ground source heat pumps and solar PV. In addition, the Academy can offer one and two day courses in G3 unvented hot water, WRAS water regulations, and safety when working at heights, providing candidates with all the necessary attributes for a career in renewable energy installation. All training courses are recognised for MCS.

The Training Academy is approved by the National Association for Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT) as well as the Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineers (CIPHE).
