Atmos Consulting sees hydro plans come to fruition

A company behind two hydro projects recently opened in Scotland is hoping to inspire other developers to follow suit.

Two <1MW schemes opened at Dowally and Lochbroom in Perthshire last week with Atmos Consulting undertaking the necessary environmental appraisals including habitat and protected species surveys as well as hydrological evaluation.

The company says that the developments are perfect examples of hydro projects running smoothly due to early consultation and correct assesment.

Matthew Hopkins, ecologist at Atmos Consulting, said: “It is especially rewarding to see this project come into fruition as we have been involved with this application from the start back in 2009, providing ongoing environmental and ecological advice to our client.

“Hydro is a very important source of renewable energy for Scotland and the UK and we have expertise to work with developers to ensure a most efficient and smooth planning process. “
