Schott Solar to reduce German presence

Reports have emerged that Schott Solar is to halt solar panel manufacturing in its native Germany. Schott’s global HQ and product development division will remain in Mainz.

According to German newspaper Wormser Zeitung, 870 of Schott’s 1,100 employees will be affected by the decision adding to the 18 PV manufacturers who have already announced closures or redundancies in the past year.

The decision closely follows Schott’s announcement that two other of the company’s German cell manufacturing facilities will be shut down due to falling modules prices.
