Barker hails boost to UK solar manufacturing

Reports have emerged that Sunsolar is set to build a new plant near Oldbury, creating 600 jobs.

According to the website BusinessGreen, the new manufacturing plant will be capable of producing 30MW of new panels and will be funded by a £5m government grant and a further £5m investment from the company.

The news comes in the wake of Sharp Solar’s announcement to relocate its HQ from Germany to its existing UK site near Wrexham.

Climate change minister, Greg Barker, said: “This announcement is fantastic news for Oldbury, bringing new jobs and investment, and a huge vote of confidence in the outlook for the solar industry in the UK. I want to see many more UK businesses taking the lead in the growing global market for green energy.”
