Eco-guesthouse wins Wales’ first RHI approval

A wood pellet boiler installation has become Wales’ first successfully approved RHI project.

The 25kW system supplied to six-bedroom Bryn Elltyd guesthouse, near Blaenau Ffestiniog, by Organic Energy will now receive the non-domestic tariff for the next 20 years.

Organic Energy managing director Andy Boroughs said: “We are delighted to have helped secure RHI approval for (owner) Mr Whitehead to make sure that his installation would attract payments under the new incentive scheme.

“We had several discussions with Ofgem, the administrator of the RHI scheme and worked closely with our installer Menai Heating throughout the process. Mr Whitehead has estimated they will  now receive payments of around £3,000 a year  – more than the cost of the wood pellets used to fuel the boiler. This project is an excellent example of how Organic Energy supports its installers and their customers during and after the completion of a project, to ensure the best possible outcome for everyone.”
